Q: My 2002 iBook, 14 in., G-3 was updated to Mac OS X 10.3.9 several years ago. Is it possible to upgrade further, or is Intel Core necessary? My grandson wants to use the computer mainly for some of his art work but is also quite savvy on his family's PC

We currently use an iMac OS X 10.6.8. We have a 2002 iBook G3 which was updated to OS X 10.3.9, before we stopped using it several years ago. Now our grandson would like to have the iBook mainly for his art work and internet conntect, but he is also quite savvy with his family's PC. Is there a level of OS X that the iBook could be upgraded to? Or would all other upgrades need the Intel Core not included in the 2002 laptop?

Your iBook could be upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4.11 dependable on the amount of memory you already have installed, would be better to have 256 meg of memory and above. The max your iBook would take is 512 meg + 128 meg built in (640 meg total) 10.6 and above would require a mac with an Intel processor
