Please Help with DVD Copy Protection issue - Error Code: -36

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to help a friend who is unable to post; here is the issue/info:

Hardware is:
- eMac G4, 512k RAM, 1GB processor
- Lacie Light Scribe DVD burner (connected to eMac)
- Sony DVD recorder model RDRVXk-515 (stand-alone)

Software:
- Toast Titanium 6

Here's what's happening: eMac will normally accept/play any DVD's - except - any DVD's burned in the Sony recorder (any source, not copy-protected material) cause the eMac to show an error message when trying to copy the DVD in Toast. The error message is:

"I/O Error - Or your disc may be copy-protected - Error Code: -36"

Let me say again, this is while trying to copy "home-burned", non-copy-protected material, DVD (VHS--->DVD x-fer), using the Toast app on the eMac ............

........... Any way to "overlook" or fool this thing into thinking that the burned DVD is not Copy Protected??

Check the owners manual for the stand-alone DVD recorder. There are instructions in the manual somewhere (probably via an option on the DVD recorder's on-screen menu) on how to 'finalize' a DVD after burning it (essentially, mark it as read-only and complete). Without that step, the Mac won't read the DVD (and neither will most other DVD players or computers).

Thanks for the response, JMVP. I will look into that and see if it solves the issue ... My initial thought is - not sure if I posted this yet - that , not sure how to say this ----------- the "burnt"-by-the-standalone-burner DVDs will play and work properly in any player -- however, it is when Toast is trying to cache the data before copying it that the hangup occurs.

I want to thank you for the response, and tips .......... the issue is solved now - friend traded in the Sony for a Panasonic - no problems now.
