Upgrade To 10.6.9? Lion?

There is no 10.6.9. But if you want to install Lion, download it from the Apple Store. There is no installation disc. You can buy a thumb drive to install, but it's only $30 in the App Store.

Be sure your computer meets all qualifications and requirements for Lion.

Also, Lion will not run any PPC applications. Be sure you check all your software.

There is no 10.6.9, and most likely never will be. The company is focused on other priorities and clearly has no intention of continuing development of Snow Leopard. Install Lion if you want, but you won't be probably won't be happy with it.

That's quite a silly statement. Perhaps you are not happy with it, but to extrapolate from there that nobody else could be happy with Lion is ludicrous. I, personally, am quite happy with Lion.

Of course, it would be wise to read more about any new version of the system before upgrading. I don't generally recommend paying too much attention to reports on a forum like this one, where we typically only hear the bad and none of the good. Try some professional reviews, like this one:

Edit: Changing your post to include the word "probably" is no better... unless you have done a survey of a statistically-significant portion of all Lion users and found that more than half of them are unsatisfied.

The article from Macworld is from almost a year ago, and was released within days of Lion's release, and is out dated. There are numerous bugs in Lion which are not covered in the article, as they were most likely not know at the time of publishing. Lion has it's quirks (as did Snow Leopard), but it has some major bugs that have not been addressed since it's release.

No, I am not happy with Lion -- and I am considering reinstalling Snow Leopard.

Not only is it silly, it's missinformed and opinion as you stated. I have been happily using Lion for well over 18 months with no issues at all as have millions of other users. Thomas was spot on about your comments!

If it is an opinion, state it as an opinion (eg, "I don't like Lion"), rather than implying a factual nature to your statement that is not actually present.

I'm not sure what bugs you're referring to. There has been much ado made here about bugs, as with all previous versions of the OS, but with very little factual basis. I would advise you to pursue solutions on your own topic.

Upgrade to Lion or wait for Mountain Lion. Lion is the most stable and superior Mac OSX yet and I would think ML will be even further advanced. Snow Leopard was good in its day but will have little to no support in the future. As suggested earlier, check your PPC programs as they will no longer work and then welcome to the wonderful world of Lion as all my five Macs are running without as much as a glitch.

No, there are well documented bugs in Lion -- as there are with any operating system.

Then name one, with documentation other than a few people talking about it in a troubleshooting forum. I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't seen evidence of any major showstopper bugs.

I'm sure there are some actual bugs, but I don't know where they are documented. Perhaps you can help.

There are certainly issues people have with Lion, some of which might be associated with actual "bugs."

However, the majority of the issues people have with Lion revolve around the changes Apple made to the operating system, Versions, auto-save, Resume, Mission Control, locking down the OS to prevent malicious attacks, dropping of support for PowerPC code, etc.

Others are caused by a change to SMBX, a replacement for SAMBA, which Apple can no longer use due to caveats introduced into GPLv3. SMBX is in its infancy, and will hopefully evolve to solve the shortcomings.

There are also WiFi issues. However, if you've been around here for a while, there have always been WiFi issues with every release. It seems any fix for some users creates issues for other users. Apple has used a variety of WiFi cards and antenna configurations. Couple that with the vast number of WiFi routers on the market and you will likely have problems with some combinations. I've always used Apple routers and never had a WiFi problem with any OS or update (yes, I've installed every single one of them).

There are likely many more "issues," some possibly caused by "bugs," but I'm quite happy with Lion. I like all the added features. I don't network with Windows, so the SMBX issues don't affect me. WiFi has been flawless. Oh, and I ditched PowerPC long ago when Apple flagged it as a dinosaur.

Pretty much those are the main "decision items" that need to be considered when deciding to upgrade to Lion.

Hi! I am in the same situation -- I have OS X 10.6.8 and I am wondering what you ended up doing to upgrade? Did you order an installation disk or download? The app store doesn't sell it anymore, so I am not sure what to do... And after you got 10.7, were you able to upgrade to the newest OS X (Mavericks)?

You have to purchase a redemption code from the Apple Store. You redeem that code at the App Store.

Does your Mac not support Mountain Lion or Mavericks. There are a few reasons to stop at Mountain Lion if your Mac can run Mavericks, but Mountain Lion would be a better choice over Lion.
