Lost pre-installed office for mac cd

Hi all,

I bought my macbook pro with pre-installed office. I don't think it ever came with the office cd. If it did come with it, I cannot find it anymore.

How can I go about finding my serial for it?

I'm on 24 days of the trial after my re-install 😟 I re-installed mac office off a colleagues cd in case you were wondering.

Thanks

If the store where you bought the MBP from preinstalled software get the cd's from them. However, from the factory Office does not get pre-installed. You might have gotten a trial package. Now you need to purchase it. Re-installing from a colleague's cd is stealing software in case you were wondering.

If your Mac came with Office pre-installed for a 30-day trial period (as my 2006 MacBook Pro did), you can use your install CDs/DVDs to reinstall it. When I sold my old MacBook Pro I did just that for the new user, installing all of the trial products (I think that Filemaker was another).

Just find your install discs that came with your Mac and choose to install just the "extras," I believe. Then you'll have the trial version back.

This probably won't help you - just let you know why your Mac may have come with Office pre-installed and where to find it.

I'd just buy the 2011 version from a reputable dealer (not MS, they charge more than $40-50 more than you can find it elsewhere)

I'm not sure if my new Mac came with a MS Office 2011 or not. I 'migrated' before I could really see what was on it and already owned Office. Nonetheless, if it did, it would have been a trial version, just like the one you're using now.

My advice would just be to buy it. I think I bought mine through Amazon (like everything else I buy these days) and I believe that it was about $150 or so.

Hi sorry I think i missed out a peice of information here.

I had the full version when I bought the MAC off apple. I believe they sent me the install disc and serial but I seem to have lost them. I have now down a re-install of lion and lost the serial but have the original install on another HDD. Just wondering if there was a way of getting the serial off that disk now.

Thanks

The serial number is on the disc envelope, not on the disc itself. If you bought it from Apple you might be able to provide your original invoice and get a replacement, but Microsoft now longer actually 'registers' users of Office so I doubt that they would have any info for replacing a lost disc or providing a serial number (unless they would accept an original invoice as well).

I'd find your invoice and then start making calls to Apple and/or Microsoft. You could go to the MS Office for Mac user forums here and ask the question there and they might be able to supply you with a path to getting your serial number (activation code).

If you have another drive, internal type that you connect using a SATA to USB adapter or an external in its own enclosure, that has a clone of the OS and programs boot from that and you may be able to get the seriel # for Office. I know there are program for Windows to do this, not sure about Mac.

Other then that if you lost the DVD, DVD sleave and Key code you will need to buy it again. Maybe this time you can place those objects someplace where you won't lose them.

And maybe he should buy one of these... I use it to keep all my discs together, including serial numbers and back-up discs. I ALWAYS make a copy of any CD/DVD that has software that I've bought and keep those in there as well as having an Excel database of all my serial numbers.
