windows xp 2002

i am unable to download the itunes on my desktop which is running windows XP 2002 32 bit.

I first went to itunes and it allowed me to download the itunes program. however, when i tried opening it, it would not open stating that it was not a valid Win32 application. I double checked that i did not download the 64 bit edition but i dont know what could be the problem. any suggestions?
