Q: iPod Touch 4 won't back up and sync to PC

I need to update my iPod's OS but when I try to back up it up to the computer, it says something about Sync Services and takes forever to back up (but never backs up). I can't update through iCloud because then I have to delete EVERYTHING and it wasn't sucessful the last time I tried. My iTunes will also crash if I try to access my old back ups to delete them. What can be done? This is so frustrating.

Are you sure you are doing back ups correctly? You might be doing something differently. I suggest for you to read more about it here:

I am having the same or similar problem. It tells me something along the lines of "iTunes could not connect to sync services." Then it tries to sync and gets stuck on step 2 of 7. I have updated my iTunes and my iPod Touch and it still freezes like this.

I'm not doing anything differently from when I first got my iPod. I had to switch to iCloud for backups since it froze at backing up on my PC.

That's exactly my problem, Abby. It gets stuck at backing up with the sync services error. My iTunes is up-to-date but I can't update my iPod to the latest iOS.

- Try:
iOS: Troubleshooting backup issues in iTunes
- Also reset sync history: iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Reset Sync History

My error about sync services wasn't in that list and I already put this up: My iTunes crashes if I try to delete old back ups. Any time I try to access the preferences menu, it freezes and crashes.

Start here then. It appears you have an iTunes problem.
