First, Sickpuple is wrong! I have an iPhone 4S, my friend has an iPhone 3GS, while I am jailbroken, she is not, yet she get's the same error as this.
The error is caused by an add on through Cydia. I think it is down to "Safari Downloader".
Suddenly, the problem is solved by simply copying the folder Lockdown from another computer, where the iPhone has been seen by the system.
Well im new to do this..can you please xplain step by step..everytime i try to plug my jailbroken ipod touch 4g into my labtop..that (0xE8000012) thing pop up and it says itunes could not connect..please help me..
There is a reason Apple don't support jailbreaking. Do a google search for that error maybe you find an answer to your problem if not you might want to restore your phone and start with a fresh system.
Well, if you have a PC go: C:\ProgramData\Apple
There is a folder named Lockdown.
Rename it or delete it.
Reboot.
Start iTunes.
Try to reconnect your device.
If it does not work copy the same folder from another PC where your device is visible by iTunes.
Same problem is solved by simply copying the folder Lockdown from another computer, where the iPhone has been seen by the system.
Before that I was trying to get rid of this ***12 error by deleting that folder but eventually it didn't work though...
theres no lockdown folder..

you dont need to update anything
just go to
setting
general
reset

That is a REALLY, REALLY BAD solution. It's like cutting off your head to cure your headache when an Aspirin would be a better solution. This is Apple's recommendation:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3221
