"DVIminiport" is a non-stardard name. Are you referring to mini-dvi or mini-displayport? The latter can pass audio if your MBP is capable of it. "Older" ones could not (don't recall when audio started being passed).

May 31, 2012 1:46 PM in response to X423424Xby DocCP,I am sorry for my lack of precision in the nomenclature of ports.
I was reerring to the mini displayport.
My question was which Macbooks were considered old and unable to pass audio through this port to an adapter ( mini display to HDMI )
My MBP was released in europe april 2010.

May 31, 2012 6:12 PM in response to DocCPby X423424X,Ok. Below is a reference to an apple article that lists MBP's that started carrying audio on their mini-displayport.
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
It says mid 2010 and later for MBP's.
So where does that place "April"? Well I am inclinded to believe that is not "mid 2010" so your MBP probably does not pass audio on its mini displayport. That means you have to use the analog 3.5mm head phone audio out or you can use an adapter that combines the mini-displayport video with digital audio from USB.
