For some reason the songs seem to play back faster than they should. Any ideas?
I even went on youtube and played the songs simultaneoulsy and it isnt just one song it seems to be that my entire itune library plays back faster than it normally would. Any ideas at all?

Resurrecting an old thread here, but just setting it to 192kHZ and then back to 44kHz fixed the problem for me. I was using a Cambridge Audio USB Magic DAC.
It isnt like a lot faster but it is a noticeable amount faster, just enough to make the song sound awkward and distorted. I have timed the songs and used the radio to time them as well. I am actually using my macbook pro and I haven't done anything to the computer that would alter anything which is why I am so confused about this happening.
I have the newest version of iTunes (10.6) and I have everything set normally. As of yesterday morning the songs were playing at a normal pace but last night it all just seemed to play back faster.
It might just be a fluke so I will try to maybe turn off the computer and turn it back on. Thanks again!
Have you launched Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup, Audio Window and looked at the format setting? If it is slightly different from the 441000 Hz, the standard rate of iTunes songs, then they may be played slightly to slow.

How much faster? Have you timed the playback speed with a stop watch and compared the actual duration with the duration (Time) in the browser?
If youtube plays back slower, it might be caused by the network.
I have only seen this on iTunes for Windows so far - you are not by any chance on Windows right now, are you?😉
Are you running the latest version of iTunes?
And do you have any non-standard Audio devices installed - look at System Preferences > Audio > Output ?
Did you install any Audio Drivers?
Also look at the Audio Devices in Audio MIDI setup (Applications > Utilities):
Check the Format for you output device if it is set to 441000 Hz (compare the setting to the sample rate you see on your songs in the iTunes Library).
If this setting is wrong, iTunes may try to playback at the wrong speed.

Is it actually playing the songs faster, or is it jumping over sections? Again, how much faster? Check a song's reported play time against actual play time.
