Q: I need help syncing!

I have an iPhone 4s.  I have an iTunes library and have added new songs.  Recently I attempted to sync the new songs on.  It stayed in step 2 of 7 (backing up) for hours and never went past that point.  Any suggestions??

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1
