Reboot the computer holding the option key down, I've found this will sometimes eject a disk if it's not bootable, else click on it and press the eject key on the keyboard. Then select OS X boot drive and click the arrow key on the screen.

Another method is to reboot and hold the D key down for a long time, this loads Apple Hardware Test from Apple's servers, run a test if you wish then click Shutdown, the disk may eject.

It's not possible to have two full sized disks in there, it is possible if a mini-cd was inserted, then a full size disk that might jam the optical drive.

The optical drive case is machined to be sealed shut, opening the machine to try to get the disk out that way won't work.

Shaking a cd-mini disk out may work, if it's a full sized cd/dvd then the mechanical was engaged and trapped it inside.

If it's a cd-mini in there, then use a thin stiff piece of card stock with a slight bent end and get underneath it and fish it near the exit where it can be grabbed with a pair of teasers.

A vacuum cleaner should never come close to a Mac, it creates a destructive static charge and won't get the disk out.

ds store, greetings; A minor disagreement on your last paragraph, "A vacuum cleaner should never come close to a Mac, it creates a destructive static charge and won't get the disk out."

That may apply to one of the upright models, but those would be rather awkward to use in this instance since they would essentially have to be turned upside down. The idea is to utilize one that has a long hose that will induce a helpful suction in extricating the stuck disk. The motor that you are concerned about would be no closer than one using said vacuum cleaner for its intended purposes while one might be using their MBP.

I have yet to hear of a vacuum cleaner motor doing harm to a MBP.

Ciao.

It is indeed possible to have 2 full sized discs stuck in the MacBook drive as I discovered when I removed booth Puss in Boots and NBA 2k12 from my drive thanks to my 2 yr old. As for the method of removal that worked, I had to log out , shut down, then power back on and wait 10-15 minutes until it actually attempted to eject said discs. Then point the drive slot toward the ground and with a firm grip shake in an up and down motion until the two discs appeared and pull them out. Thank God for forums like this or I would probably be out of some cash to remedy this situation.

I ahve the same problem but there isn't any CD inside.

Wjeb I use the drutil eject command the system try to excute the command ( a little noise coms out form the drive ) but the drive remains blocked and I cannot insert a CD.

The mechanism stay as there is a CD inside.

In the Finder the Eject icon is off, I don't have any CD icon on the desktop and I have tried to eject the disck from iTunes.

Thanks for your support

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro and I had the disk replaced twice from Applecare for the same reasons. Now that Applecare is long gone, the problem started again. After much research, I figured out that it's the felt lips on the front of the DVD drive that is stopping the DVD from ejecting. i realize there is a purpose to these lips - keeping dust and foreign matter out and whatnot - but the drive doesn't function with these lips as they are. They are so tight the DVD can't get past - "let me out you felt lips!," said my son's Madagascar DVD. I used needle nose plyers and pulled out the lip all the way around. Be careful as it easily rips but you'll get it in time. My drive works perfectly now. If I have ruined the drive by allowing dust to get in, so what? I'll have to replace it but I'd have to replace it anyway with these felt lips.

I hope this helps.

I thought you were correct about not being able to have 2 disks inthe drive at once😉 working at a school where a teacher has done just that... 2x CD's in the drive at the same time... Tried all sorts of tricks to no avail. Have removed single stuck CD's with folded paper to the width of a ruler running the terminal command for eject and cd slot pointing at the floor

slide the paper into the drive just on one of the sides of the disc (prefer on top rather than under the disk)

press the eject command and tease the cd out... using the friction on the paper to help draw the disk out.

(or double sided tape on paper works too...) always loathed to put anything in the drives. have successfully removed 30 disks this way so far with 0 damage to the MBP.

I tried all the solutions on this thread so far to no avail, but then finally I found a solution of my own. It turns out that my mac was a little dented/misshapen at the entrance to the cd player from dropping it one too many times. I assume the pads inside the opening were pinched together too tight for the cd to squeeze through. So, if you are clumsy and drop your mac a lot, like me, and this cd eject problem still persists after trying all of the above, then check to make sure there aren't any dents in the area that blocks the cd's escape route.😉

I had to use Ogelthorpe's solution 6 while tilting my computer and shaking. It came out on the third try.

I've had this problem several times over the years, the problem is that the eject isn't strong enough to get it past the felt on the inside unless the disc is particularly thick or thin. So, in my case at least, the drive tries to eject, fails, gives up immediately, and attempts to play the disc. And in classic mac behaviour it ignores any continuing application of the button once it decides its gonna try to play the disc. Same thing happened with my whitebook.

Sigh. I need to tape that slot shut, because this happens 2 out of every 3 times I use the disc drive. And it ruins my discs because the mac keeps trying to play them and gets temperamental with them if even slightly disturbed. Every time, I tell myself "this time will be different, surely!" and every time I end up fighting with it. Occasionally for hours.
