Preferences error: could not load .Mac preferences pane

When I try to load the .Mac preferences pane on my spankin' new MacBook Pro, I get this:

Preferences error: could not load .Mac preferences pane

Does anybody know what this means ? Hopefully it is not corruption requiring I ANOTHER complete fresh system installation... I have plenty of memory and all clean and fresh carefully installed software direct from original installers known to be UB or compatible, no old prefs or plist files rattling around.

Thanks!
