Q: Compressor and FTP

Was browsing through the discussion and did not see this.

Did comrpessor lose the abaility to FTP a file to a server between 4.0.2 and 4.0.4? The drop down for local or remote appears to have dissapeared from the '+' button in the destinations window in 4.0.4. But found a machine thta still had 4.0.2 and it was there

Did the mechanism change?

Compressor, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

You're right…It seems they did. I hadn't noticed this. Kind of a strange stealth change– especially since it's still described in the on-line user manual.

Well, I can only go back to 3.5 (not 4.02). Here are the options (local & remote) from Destinations in 3.5. There is no remote available in 4.03.

Ideas on a work around for functonality other than automator? We use this as a recommended workflow for our customers and now a software update will break it?

Have not found anywhere in 4.0.4 that you can still se FTP, even though the docs still say you can ( as Russ points out ), but they cleverly do not say how...

Spent some time on this yesterday and struck out. I think it's a bug. Their update release notes are here. Nothing in them or in 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 notes to indicate otherwise. (It's also very un Apple-like not to reflect a planned change in an updated version of their documentation.)

Anyone have any more info on this? This is handicapping a workflow for a volunteer position where they queue it and it uploads hours later. Sets us back a whole day.

This is annoying as I just bought Compressor 4.0.4 and ftp upload functionality is so basic in an encoder I( didn't think to check if it could do it. Nonetheless I have a possible workaround. If you use the Finder > Go > Connect to Server function to mount your remote ftp server, then Compressor sees it as a viable destination.

Haven't tried this in action yet, but its worth a try until its fixed.
