Blu-ray on an IMAC

I created a BLU-RAY using the Toast application and the Blu-Ray works fine on my external Blu-Ray player. I am now trying to create a back-up of the Blu-Ray in case the original goes bad and I want to create a new Blu-Ray. I know that I can use the Toast application to create an Image File of the Blu-Ray and that worked with no problem; i.e I created a .toast file.

The next thing I tried was to double click on the Image picture of the Blu-Ray that was on my Desktop. It opened up and I could see 2 folders ( a Certificate Folder and a BDMV folder). What I want to do is copy the BDMV folder to my Hard Drive. I click on the folder and drag it to my Hard Drive. The moment the system tries to read the file, my entire system crashes. I get one of those screens that look like an unfolding blind and I am told that I had some type of fatal crash and must reboot my system. Can someone explain to me why this is happening?

The system cannot read BluRay files which is why copying them to your hard drive won't work.

Instead use the copy funtion of Toast to make the copy, instead of creating an image file first.

This really is just an issue of curiosity. I can take the .Toast file and using the Toast application I can copy the >toast file to a Blu-Ray Disc and get a good working Disc. This is really all I need to be able to do to ensure that I can re-create my Blu-Ray movie in case the original movie goes bad.

I was just curious as to why when I Open Blu-Ray disc and simply try to copy the Folders on the Disc to my Hard Drive, the MAX OSX crashes. I guess that Klaus1’s answer that the system simply can’t handle Blu-Ray folders is the correct answer.

Thanks for the quick replies.
