backing up itunes with windows 7

I am unable to back up my itunes music with the latest version of itunes and find there are no ready solutions in the help sections. Will going under Library - export library accomplish this for me- and If i import from this export will it work? I preferred the older versions of itunes where it was easier to select what & where to back up to.
