Q: Can I transfer photos from iPad to SD card?

I read in another blog about a possible solution, using the same device (Apple SD card reader), but jailbreaking the ipad to access an manage files directly in the card.  That way you can keep the original file without change (resolution and compresion) and move them to your favorite cloud storage (dropbox, google drive, etc...) using your ipad as a bridge and viewer at the same time.

I posted on another forum thread about this subject and my negative experience. Seems relevant to post here too so others might be pre-warned and therefore don't fall in to the same trap.

Nope. £25 wasted. Because Apple are saving this simple process for a later iOS update, and they will call it an innovative new FEATURE. Ok, annoyed, whiny voice aside.

Any device out there that will have anything to do with SD cards, will transfer to and from the cards. EXCEPT iPads.

The question is WHY NOT!???

Why has someone at Apple decided to deny such a simple, and much needed process???

Obviously, you didn't read what the card was for or how it worked.

You're right of course Mystic Meg. I assumed Apple would not have tampered with the role of an SD card reader. I assumed Apple would not provide 50% of the function of SD card reader, and instead provide 100% functionality.

Thanks for the link to Apple feedback, but I know about that all too well. It takes years for them to implement valid suggestions. Or rather it did until there was a staff change.

I wonder if Android OS only provides 50% of the functionality for SD card reader ports. Do you know Meg?

You can transfer photos wirelessly from iPad to Micro SD Card (comes with wireless flash drive)

I also have this problem i wish apple would make it such that we weren't dependent on wifi to move files, the cloud is a great idea but internet access is still patchy and often rubbish around the world and its not a good idea to assume it will work when I just need to get work done quickly and simply. To make us dependent on internet providers degrades our freedom to work efficiently, its a serious issue and I too use and mostly love apple products, but this needs to change.

In a rural area, using cell phone data, this doesn't work too well. If you have 20 gb of photos and 3gb cell phone data. The bottom line is, Apple MUST come up with a solution for this that doesn't require uploading and downloading. Further, my home upload speeds is glacial .6kbps. Upload speeds are typically way slower than download speeds. Having a micro sd card slot might reduce the need to an expensive iCloud account, but it would also be really useful.

Did you look at Diavonex's suggestion from June 2014, pictures above? It doesn't require that you have an external WiFi connection.
