My iPad only gets sound in headphones. When a song is playing the volume slider bar doesn't appear until you plug in headphones and then it appears. It also doesn't show the speaker symbol if you press the up/down volume keys, but shows he alarm (bell) symbol. The keyboard sometimes makes sounds when unlocking but not always. Help !

Thanks. I've got lock set to rotate but tried following the advice, slid along and clicked on the mute on/off button but still no sound. Any other ideas ?
Try playing a bit of music with the headphones in, then pause the music, remove the headphones and resume play. This apparently solved the problem for another poster a few weeks ago!
Yes I've tried that along with a reset. The funny thing is that without the headphones plugged in there is no volume slider, then magically plug in the phones and there is the volume slider but couldn't fool it by pausing and removing phones. Have also tried repeatedly removing headphones and can't see any damage to dock.
Did you figure this problem out? I just got a new ipad 2 and am having the same problem....I need help too.
