How to charge iPad from 12v dc
The I pad does not charge from the 12v dc in our camper. I phone does. Is an adapter available to solve the problem.
iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iOS 5.1.1

I imagine your using an iphone car charger and you see the message 'not charging' on the ipad, this message is somewhat misleading........iphone chargers typcally provide an output current of around 1amp (some third party chargers only .5amp) which is only half of the 2amp output provided by apples ipad charger. In use, once the screen is on an ipad uses around 1amp an hour which means when your using an iphone charger the battery is not charging because your using as much power as the charger can provide, hence that message appears........but at the same time your not losing any power or will be losing at a much lower rate, and once you put your ipad to sleep it does charge, only very slowly.....try leaving it plugged in overnight you might be surprised the next morning.
You can of course buy a 2amp charger
or use an inverter so you can use your original apple mains charger
Thanks for the advice. I obtained a 2amp charger and problem appears to be solved. However I had previously got a 10 v volt charger but that didn't work so be careful! Thanks again for the help. Rekerly

Good grief! Please don't do that... Whatever charger you choose has to be five volts. The amperage merely defines the time it's going to take. The wrong voltage has the power to kill.
I'd check the Apple Online Store (or nearest Apple Store) and Amazon for a vehicle power charger rated to work with iPads. They require 10W as opposed to the iPhones 5W.
Sorry of course I ment 10 watt! Rekerly
