Iphone 4s error code -1

Hi all!


This morning my Iphone was out of battery, so I recharged it. But foud out it could not detect my SIM, it did not ask for the SIM code, nor detected its removal when I pulled it out. All the other functions were working good.

But the problems really started when I tried to restore my Iphone. Everything just went normal, until it failed, with Itunes giving error code -1.

What to do now?

That error indicates a hardware issue. I would take it to Apple and see if they can determine the issue.

It is indeed a hardware issue. Fourth guy for this month with this same problem in this forum after updating to 5.1.1. Out of all the odd questions, can I ask whether your 4S is a black or a white and the capacity of your model. And just to narrow things down, your carrier and your country. I'm gonna start a proper research on this now.


And BTW, take to Apple, you get a new phone! 🙂


Just to make sure they don't turn you down when you go to the Genuis Bar, remove your sim and do a full restore, after it fails, open up Console and look for the iPhone Updater logs and post the part related to "bbupdater" over here. I will check and see if its the same issue. <= These are instructions for a Mac. For windows, hit the Windows+R keys on your keyboard and paste ""%AppData%\Apple Computer\iPhone Updater Logs\" and open up the log file in that folder.

Damm, I was hoping it was just a software issue..


Of course, my iphone is a 4s, black, 64gb, my carrier is T-mobile and my country of orign is the Netherlands.


The log file was located in AppData\roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Updater Logs\ just for the next time, it will save some search time. In the log file there were two parts starting with bbupdater, which were separeted by some other log files. I hope it will help!

There are some differences. Your hardware seem to be a slightly more responsive than mine. But it still looks like its gone. The key line of code that points out to this is "unable to convert ramrod error 1004"

I know, after scanning through all that lines, its in the last bit!


Its strange that my is also:

1. Black

2. 64GB

3. Working on a GSM carrier.


I am working on the fact that those three factors along with iOS 5.1.1 matter. Also, you tried this without the sim right?

Hi folks, just yesterday i can restore my iphone 4 that have a problem when i restore from itunes, when i do the restore from itnes, always showed me the following error:

what I did was this: just when I will finish the process, when the status bar is at the end in the firmware, only put the sim card and go back to take out, I do this like 4 or 5 times and the process restoration ends so well. This method I tried it 2 times and 2 times worked. I spent like 10 hours trying to restore iphone without results, until I started watching the logs and the key is when you are upgrading the firmware sends a command to answer yes. And I hope this helps.

This is the line of the log that appears and when the restoration is correct:
