Hi my iMac has decided to come up for the 5 time With the ?question mark Symbol just this time when i try to restart the iMac with any key it won't work, then I try also to insert the installation dvd and stard with yhe C or D key

Still no way to grt it starting, also I notice the DVD drive is getting scratched in the drive just before it outomaticly ejected.

media is getting scratched after been used and ejected by my iMac without loading .

Please help!!! I to finish my college work and have no way of work on it! HELP

Hello,

Are you using USB Keyboard or wireless?

Do you have Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...

It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.

Hi ok I do not use the firmware password and I use the USB keyboard, this started 2 month a go and last month I decided to erase all the hard drive and install the leopard from scratch so it worked! I updated to snow leopard and it was as good as new till yesterday! And now won't let me reboot it from anything and the hard drive since to have vanish! What is wrong with my iMac?? Please help

Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.

The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem. 😟

Dear bdAQUA, I have tried to boot the cd pressing the d key it does not work it makes noises and eventually push back out the DVD

That is why I do not understand what is happening I use to be able to restore the system to factory setting and upgrade if to snow leopard but now it won't respond to those command key!
