Airport Express/Direct TV

I have been trying to hook up my Direct TV wireless with my Airport Express to get their movies. I read all the suggestions made in the discussion chat room, made sure I did them all, and Direct TV will still not accept my security code. What could I be doing wrong?

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Ok, I'm game. I have the express upstairs with my desktop so I can use my ipod touch and laptop downstairs, but rarely use either. The express is brand new, I just replaced my 3 year old one. However, I just went downsairs to check out both devices, ipod and laptop, and neither connects to the Internet and they used to. The new express and the ipod touch have both been checked out recently at the Apple store.

My upstairs office has my mac desktop (OS 10.6.8) , modem and airport express. I put in the express so that I could use my laptop and ipod touch downstairs when lazy and just watching tv. The laptop and ipod used to pick up my emails, etc. I found out they no longer do, nor will my wireless from Direct tv accept my security code after following all the suggestions on this site. The new express and the ipod have been checked out at the Apple store and work fine. I hope I explained this correctly as I am not too well versed in this computer world.

Ok, let's do this overagain, but use iOS 5 so it generally picks the best settings and we don't have to worry about any wacky options that may be selected.

Do a factory reset on the router, then set up the router using the iPod. This is in fact as easy as it gets:

Set up your Wi-Fi network with your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac.

Now, I feel pretty confident your iPod should still connect to the WiFi after the setup is complete.

I use the Apple Airport Express for my iMac and Apple TV, no problems. Attempted to install the DirecTV Cinema Wireless Kit. The DirecTV device recognized the Express network and displayed the correct network name on the TV screen . Then Directv asked for the " Security Key " as it stated the network is protected. Used the exact identical password I use with the iMac and AppleTV, entered multiple times. DIRECTV tech had no experience installing their device using Airport Express. On other vendors wireless routers such as ATT, there is some type of reset to proceed.

In the Menu Bar I have the Airport status symbol and the Green light indicating Airport Connected

Is the term from Directv of " Security Code " just another name for the Apple password or ?

Does the Airport Express have a Security Code which is different from what I call a password ?

Anyone have success using the Directv Cinema Wireless Kit with Airport Express ? If so, any unique/special steps?

DirecTV is quite finicky about wireless networks.

The name of your wireless network should be comprised of only lower case letters and/or numbers....and it should not exceed 20 characters in length.

for example, your network name might be something like.......cb427wireless

Set the Wireless Security on your network to use WPA/WPA2 Personal security.

The "security code" is your normal password. Make sure that it is at least 8 characters in length and use only lower case letters and/or numbers in the password.

Bob.......thanks

Just to clarify, from the DirecTV Wireless Kit message on the TV screen while doing the set up, my entire network name was displayed correctly and appeared to be the Apple Air Port Express network connection was accepted by DirecTV as is. Seems the only way the DirecTV device could have gotten the Network name would be from the iMac & Airport Express

The error condition came when the message displayed on the TV indicated I had a protected network and specifcally a " security code " had to be entered. Error message was invalid security code, no reference to the network name being invalid.

My password for Airport Express is 6 position lower case alpha and 2 position numeric, 8 total

" Set the Wireless Security on your network to use WPA/WPA2 Personal security." This is the setting I have.

New to this condition, Airport Express problem resolution and no expertise. Would you still be of the opinion I need to change the Network name ?.
