I have my book in epub format but I cannot find a way to upload epub on the itunesconnect site. Are you forced to have to pay third party companies in order to get your book onto the apple ibookstore? I do not have a mac so I cannot get their software to install on my windows machine.

You need to use iTunes Producer to upload books to the store. Unfortunately, that software only runs on a Mac.
You will have to either get a Mac or use an aggregator to upload the book. Here is a list of aggregators:

You'll need a Mac, sorry. When you sign up for an account, you can download docs and tools, including those needed to upload....with a Mac.
