ECC errors on Powermac G5

My G5 2.3GHz has 8 2G DDR2 SDRAM PC2-3200E-288, but onely the first slot is a status OK.

The other 5 slots he is giffing ECC-errors and the last 2 he don't see them (emty).

He is terrably slow now.

Any idee what my problem can be?

t.i.a.

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Is this a Powermac 7,3 (AGP graphics) or a PowerMac 11,2 (PCIe graphics) G5?

If the 7,3, then ECC RAM is not supported.

If the 11,2, then the RAM is misreporting (should be 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM) and is likely incompatibe.

In any case, iff errors are prevalent, the RAM needs replaced.

RAM that isn't "seen" is either failed completely or is completely incompatible.

Also, even though the 11,2 G5 supports ECC RAM, it isn't necessary or mandatory to use.

It should NOT, however, be mixed with non-ECC RAM.

Any RAM used should be guaranteed Mac compatible.

Not all RAM is Mac compatible.

PC2-5300 almost always misreports.

Crucial RAM can be fine, but it isn't always 100% compatible.

Crucial RAM is, however, genreally Lifetime guaranteed, so if the RAM is throwing errors, it needs replaced.

I know that PC2-4200 RAM is harder to find, but it is best to use just that if possible.

Faster can be used, but you gain nothing in performance (the controller doesn't overclock) and the report is almost always wrong.

Your issues, though, are with the RAM showing errors and the non-reporting RAM.

If reseating the RAM doesn't help, then replacement is really the only option.

The following is guaranteed G5 compatible ECC RAM:

Again, ECC isn't really all that necessary in a G5, so regular RAM is often preferred:
