server connection failed--please how do I resolve this, had i-pad 2 days

Help please, I have had the i-pad for just two days, but when I press the mail button all I get is 'server connection failed'

I can access my e-mail by going diretc to the website but this seems to be the wrong way to do things

iPad, iOS 5.1.1
