Q: My iTunes music is greyed out in iTunes for my phone. How do I transfer these files so they play on iPhone?

I have greyed out music listing as on my iPhone when connected to iTunes. I can play the music in iTunes but after multiple synchs the music does not show in my iPhone. I checked and the music was purchased originally from iTunes.

I purchased the music again from iTunes and it both downloaded from iTunes Store and synched to my iPhone. Now I have a black list of songs and a grey lis of the the same songs on my iPhone as listed in iTunes.

How do I get the greyed duplicates off the list?

How do I get the other greyed listed songs to synch to the iPhone without paying again for them all?

Unless you are manually managing music and videos with your iPhone, when opening music on the iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list when your iPhone is connected to iTunes, the music is grayed out there, but that does not mean the music is not on your iPhone. If not on your iPhone, it wouldn't be shown there.

The music is not available when selecting the Music app on your iPhone, which is the iPod function on the iPhone?

Music downloaded from the iTunes store can be re-downloaded with iTunes on your computer or with your iPhone without having to pay for it again, but music will not be redownloaded in iTunes on your computer or with your iPhone if the music is available in iTunes on your computer and on your iPhone.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?

Entire Music library is selected under the Music Tab for iPhone Sync preferences.

There was more than one question.

They are not on the iPhone where I can see them listed or play them. I check both the music app and the iTunes app on the iPhone and none of the songs which are greyed out on the iPhone listing in iTunes are on visible or usable on the iPhone.

The music app is completely empty?

The iTunes app is for downloading new music and for re-downloading music that was already purchased only.

Deselect Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.

Follow this by reselecting Sync Music and another sync.

    Try this...

In iTunes go to the Store menu and Sign Out.

    Sign back in.

Select the iTunes Store in the left-hand column.

    Under Quick Links select Purchased.

Click the Not on This Computer button in the top right-hand corner.

This should generate a list of songs in iCloud that, for whatever reason, are not on your computer.

You can download individual items or use the Download All button at the bottom right.

    Hope that works for you.

    Terrific!

I was able to restore all my music onto my iPhone following these final instructions.

    Thanks for your patience.
