My iBook running Leopard will not stay shut down.

It always reverts to sleep mode, seemingly automatically. Any ideas??

Hello.

More than likey to be an application installed which is preventing it OS shutting down.

Do you ave nortons ant virus installed? This has been known to prevent the OS from closing down. Files from that application present in the LaunchAgents & LaunchDaemons folders in the Mac HD Library could be the root cause of the problem.

If ou have an external hard drive plugged in, that could also be preventing shut down. Try unmounting before shut down to see if that solves your problem.

Best of luck
