can I use iBooksStore or iTunes U to publish my book if I live in Spain?  I mean that I have heard that it is needed to live in the States or have a credit card or an account there.

How to sign up for a paid books account if you are not a US citizen:

    See this FAQ.

You will need an EIN from the IRS/US Govt., which you can obtain over the phone. If you attempt to publish as a company with Apple, you will be expected to show proof. Scan the relevant documents and send to Apple per their instructions.

Know that at this time, there are 32 stores are available for publishing/distribution, basically US, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe.

I really appreciate your answer as will solve the question I guess.

Is that an US bank account or a tax number??

    cheers

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number.

The bank account you receive payments to can be in your country as long as it accepts inbound wire transfers.

I struggled with the formal American English of the on-line forms. I have previously worked in sales for an American IT manufacturer and I still struggled with the language in the documents.

I rang the US to get a EIN on +1 267 941 1099 Mon - Fri 7am to 7 pm (US) and a nice lady took me through the process and gave me an EIN within 10 minutes - I have yet to complete a W8BN which I need to download. They are posting me the confirmation and supporting documentation, that was 12 days ago but I'm sure it will arrive. I do have the EIN though

    I am a self-employed author acting as a sole-trader in the UK

    Hope this helps
