My Tuner doesn't recognize HDMI on Apple TV 3

I had no problem with my audio/video Tuner recognizing Apple TV- 720P but when I swapped it out with the new 1080P it doesn't seem to recognize the HDMI connection. I can swap back the 720P unit and it works just fine, but the new unit won't work. I've tried different HDMI cables. My tuner is HDMI 1.3 compatable. Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem with our new Apple TV and Marantz NR102 receiver. The Apple TV works when connected to the TV but the receiver doesn't recognise it. From looking around it seems the HDMI/HDCP standard isn't really standard and people have problems with lots of different types and makes of device.

Would be nice if Apple offered some help. The receiver recognised all our other devices with no problem.

I agree -- it would be nice if AppleCare offered some help!

One thing I neglected to put in my previous post is that my Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver recognizes all my other HDMI components (2 Motorola Cable DVRs and a Sony BluRay player) AND it recognizes the ATV2 720P component but it DOES NOT recognize the ATV3 1080P unit. And my older LP TV doesn't recognize the ATV3 when directly connected. Very frustrating when you think you are upgrading and you get nothing.

After reading a few things elsewhere I have managed to fix the problem as follows:

In the receiver, I went into the menu to assign inputs manually. The four working HDMI ports showed up OK as HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3 and HDMI4, but the 'Game' HDMI port showed nothing. I manually assigned HDMI5 to the 'Game' port.

I plugged the Apple TV into the 'Game' HDMI socket but it still didn't work (as I expected).

Then I turned off power supply to both the Apple TV and the receiver at the mains, then I turned on the Apple TV and let it boot up. I then turned on the receiver power, and hey presto, it was working. I didn't have to play around with any resolution.

Hope something like that works for you.

Here it is almost two months later since I posted the original question and my Apple TV3 is completely useless. I've tried all of the above solutions and I still get nothing. Apple won't even acknowledge a problem. I've tried Apple support and they don't seem to have any knowledge of anything HDMI as a solution. I was shocked by their lack of knowledge and help. I've tried everything I can think of and even Maranz has been no help. I don't dare plug it in because it knocks everythig else off the system, especially the Sony BluRay off HDMI and it takes forever to get it back. I could not be more disappointed with Apple and thier support, or should I say lack there of.

I had this prolem as well, atv3 did not play when I connected it to a spare hdmi input on marantz sr5005 receiver but played ok when i connected it to a spare hdmi on tv.

By trying different hdmi inputs on the receiver I found that it plays ok on some other hdmi ins. I then went to the receiver input setup menu and saw that simply no hdmi was assigned to the input I tried. Just assigning the correct hdmi to the intended input solved the problem.

So it is a setup issue, not compatibility issue, it turns out. Hope that helps.
