Record my screen with Vlc

I saw on many videos how to record my screen with vlc.

I open Vlc, than I go on file, Open capture Device and a new window open to me.

On the videos he can choose "Isight" - "Screen" - "EyeTV"

But on my Vlc I can only choose "Capture Device" (it record with cam) or "EyeTV"

WHY I can't select screen?

I tried to change all versions of Vlc.... Any Ideas?

In VLC 2.0, if you're trying to capture a picture of the movie that's playing, right-click (control-click) on the window that the movie is playing in and choose 'Snapshot' from the contextual menu.

It will appear in the corner of the screen for a few seconds, then disappear. You can find the snapshot in your usual 'Pictures' folder in Finder.

(If you're trying to capture a full desktop (everything on your screen, not just VLC player) you can't do that in VLC. But you can do it by holding down 'shift-command-3'. The picture is saved on your Desktop (or in the Desktop folder in Finder)).

Which version of Quicktime do you have? The latest version (v.10) allows full or partial screen recordings -

simply open Quicktime (in your Applications folder), and choose "New Screen Recording" under File menu.

User uploaded file

You can then choose to make a recording of the whole screen or part of the screen. I just tested it - it works just fine.

One of the reasons why Quicktime is so much more advanced than most other movie players.

As David said, that YouTube Video was years old and irrelevant to Lion. I suggested Quicktime, which works fine for this, so if you really want to look around, you have a thing called Google.

Cheers

This site is for people seeking help with or information about how to use their Apple products. We are focused on the "big picture" of you getting the most from your system. Often that includes suggesting alternate solutions that what you are trying. In many cases, the original poster only asks for help after going down a rabbit hole and getting stuck. We would rather give you a rope than a shovel.

If you want support specific to one particular third party solution, then you need to contact them directly: http://www.videolan.org/support/

And yet, if you can't answer the question, and the OP doesn't want alternative, why hate? Just accept you don't have the right answer and move on.

I also have this question. Does this mean that VLC removed the ability to do screensrecordings on Mac or is this caused by some sort of a license issue? Doing screen recordings with VLC as, the OP suggests would trump all other alternatives, VLC is free, open source and, at least in earlier versions allowed you to do partial screen recordings, which QuickTIme, in it's free incarnation does not. Very simple reason why VLC would be better, no reason to start being a Mac fan for something like QT, so please folks, aswer the question or keep quiet.

If that is what you classify as "hate", I strongly suggest you stay out of the iPhone or Mountain Lion forums. In many cases, the original poster doesn't even know the right question to ask.

QuickTime can do screen recordings.

I don't care if you are Mac fan or not. However, if you aren't a Mac fan, then you are probably in the wrong place. Yes. VLC is open source. If it won't do screen recordings then it is your responsibility to change the code to make it do that. That is how open source works. The freedom is yours. No walled gardens here. Get it done! People are waiting.

If you don't have the ability to reprogram VLC, then I suggest you follow the link I posted five months ago and ask the VLC community what to do.
