And yet, if you can't answer the question, and the OP doesn't want alternative, why hate? Just accept you don't have the right answer and move on.
If that is what you classify as "hate", I strongly suggest you stay out of the iPhone or Mountain Lion forums. In many cases, the original poster doesn't even know the right question to ask.
I also have this question. Does this mean that VLC removed the ability to do screensrecordings on Mac or is this caused by some sort of a license issue? Doing screen recordings with VLC as, the OP suggests would trump all other alternatives, VLC is free, open source and, at least in earlier versions allowed you to do partial screen recordings, which QuickTIme, in it's free incarnation does not. Very simple reason why VLC would be better, no reason to start being a Mac fan for something like QT, so please folks, aswer the question or keep quiet.
QuickTime can do screen recordings.

I don't care if you are Mac fan or not. However, if you aren't a Mac fan, then you are probably in the wrong place. Yes. VLC is open source. If it won't do screen recordings then it is your responsibility to change the code to make it do that. That is how open source works. The freedom is yours. No walled gardens here. Get it done! People are waiting.
If you don't have the ability to reprogram VLC, then I suggest you follow the link I posted five months ago and ask the VLC community what to do.
