How to free up Space in MacBook Air

I have been using my MBA for over 6 months period and my disk space is getting smaller and looking for some solution to free up some space. Been looking through forum to find out how to permanently delete the trash but is not helping much. Also read through forum that back up file and log file also can take up lots of space. I has set up an external hard disk for back up but after 3 months I am not able to back up as my extarnal harddisk also running out of space. As of las error back up I been getting error that I need to back up 80+GB file which my external harddisk does not have efficiant space. Hope someone can help me up here.

I have the same problem. Reading on the web I found out that apps like Mail, iPhoto and iTunes can use a lot of space for their libraries. A possible solution could be not to use those apps (Mail) or use them with external based libraries (i.e. putting them on external USB hd. This I read on the web, but still I'm not sure it does works and how to do it. I know for sure, instead, that the libraries of those apps are really huge on my MBA, so that it does not work so good as at the beginning (six months ago)...

Try to install the latest ccleaner for macbook air and run the "Cleaner". If it doesn't free up your harddisk, then run the "Erase Free Space" on Tools. It might take you about an hour for the second option, but all the space you don't know going where will be recovered after it's finished. U can also use this app to uninstall your unwanted programs. It works on my MBA, so it might work on yours as well.
