    Close your iTunes,

    Go to command Prompt -

(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

    netsh winsock reset

    Hit "ENTER" key

    Restart your computer.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.

Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I have the same problem, and this solution does not help.

Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.

Basic connection to the store failed.

    The network connection timed out.

Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.

Last successful iTunes Store access was 2012-06-04 00:12:22.

Go to the link to download and run autoruns.exe and see if there are winsock providers other than Apple's Bonjour.

Thanks for replying. I already did this and 'windowslive nsp' and 'windowslive local nsp' are only other winsock providers. I repaired two different windows live programs in my control panel, to no effect.

Can you try these entries in command prompt (Run as Administrator for Win7/Vista) one at a time?

    ipconfig /release

    then

    ipconfig /renew

    restart computer

    ipconfig /flushdns

totally shut down computer then restart.

    netsh winsock reset all

    restart computer

Now test your iTunes again. If that does not work, uninstall your Antivirus program and test again.

Thank you, I tried all that to no effect. I made sure I typed exactly what you said, but still nadda.

I'm afraid to uninstall my anti-virus, I inherited this laptop from my dad recently, and the cds have got lost so I won't be able to re-install my anti-virus.

Both of my boyfriend's laptops (one mac, one windows) have got this same problem, do you think that's connected?

If all your computers at home have the same problem, it probably has something to do with your internet connection from your provider.

Power off your Internet Modem/Router and your computer.  Restart them in following sequence

1, Modem  until all lights lit.

    2. Router, until all lights lit

    3. your computer.

    New try again.

If that still fail and you don't want to uninstall the anti-virus, check your antivirus program to see if they have Parental Control activated.  If so, disable Parental control and try again.

Again, thanks for your help! We turned off the router like you said and tried with both computers - nothing.

    No parental controls either.

It actually worked for us both last night  and then wasn't working this morning. So probably is the internet service provider?

If it worked last night and you have not done any update to iTunes, it will probably be your internet provider or Apple server in your area.  You may called your internet provider to check or test it out again tomorrow.

I had the same conflicting windows live programs, I actually uninstalled them (as I do not need them) and it still did not fix my issue.

For those still experiencing this issue, I had to disable IPv6 on my network adapter and restart, in order for the issue to finally be resolved. There is a very long explanation behind how my coworker and I discovered this, but I'll spare everyone the details. This resolved my iTunes unresponsiveness issues with 64bit iTunes.
