Is there a way to sync the music on my IPOD (items not purchased) to my Itunes account? I have music on my IPOD that I want to add to my Itunes account but the only option I see is to sync purchased items. Thanks

Using iTunes, there is no way to do it (except as you mentioned with items purchased from iTunes Store).
However, there are quite a few third-party utilities and methods that will allow transfer of song files from iPod to computer. You'll need to do a search for yourself in Google; "iPod song transfer" should work. I have personally used one called Music Liberator from Zelek Software, but there are other choices.
