    I found this suggestion on another site and it worked for me.  Like, in an instant!!!!!  The change is remarkable.  I'm back to streaming my tv shows nearly-instantly.

    Or maybe the buffer on the Apple TV is full. Maybe if you do not let a movie or tv run to the very end the show will remain in the buffer and make new streams difficult to load. Tested the idea by running the last show I watched to the end and suddenly everything worked again. Can anyone else replicate that?

    I can't imagine why anyone would use Google DNS in the first place, or believe it could help.  However, none of these tips are worthwhile.  The fact is that Apple cannot keep up with the demand.

    I agree with you Rassilon. Apple is really falling apart the past year or so. I hate to say it, because I've been exclusively an Apple user for years--mainly for the superior MEDIA aspects. For the last few months though, I hesitate to download any type of video from the Apple Store (especially if I'm wanting to watch it in the next 30 minutes, which isn't unreasonable if the episode is only 22 minutes long). For example, last night I tried to download a new episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (22 min long episode)--I could not get the episode to download faster than .10-.13 mbps. It was insanely slow. Said it would be finished in 2+ hours.


    This is the same case with rentals or any other digital video content. Simply unacceptable from Apple.


    The new Itunes 11 is terrible as well. What happened to the simplestic, user-friendly approach? Apple is really going downhill. APPLE: STOP FOCUSING ON WINNING STUPID LAWSUITS AND CONCENTRATE ON YOUR PRODUCTS.

    I'm totally frustrated!!! I'm running Atv 2 and it's been running fine up until a couple of weeks ago... Did a software update, now download speeds from my media in the cloud has gone berserk... I've tried all the above suggestions and nothing!! What a complete and utter load of crap!! Really disappointed that no one in the apple camp can seem to help me either... It's totally unacceptable and now considering throwing the bloody thing into on coming traffic!!

    I am so frustrated.  I have spent hours with Apple support, returned my original ATV 3 for another, upgraded to the latest model of Airport Extreme and then switched to a Western Digital LiveWire (routes internet from your modem through your house wires).  The LiveWire seemed to cure the slow download for a couple of months. 


    Now my LiveWire shows 18-20 Mbps tested on my daughter's laptop but ATV 3 is dead dog slow.  I have spent far more trying to cure this thing's problems than I did on the device itself, all to no avail.

    I had similar problems but did a reset to force the software upgrade and that did the trick.


    Settings - General - Reset - Restore.


    You will need to reenter your Apple iTunes Account login and password and your WiFi connection and password.


    This routine seems to force the downloading of the software update which, because of the slow connection issue itself, prevented me from completing the search of software updates.

    I was at the same point after I updated the OS with slooow downloads. I tried some of the other items in this post but here's what worked for me - and it worked immediately after I did this:

    go to:





    reselect your network


    when you get to the screen where it shows config IP and config DNS:

       select config IP. and just reselect Automatic

       select config DNS - and just reselect Automatic


    As soon as I reselected those settings i immediatly was notified I could watch the show that had been indicating I had an hour to wait! I went to another show and it also immediatly streamed. Whew.

    it is frustrating. You could try going into your router settings and 'rescan' the wireless settings for your apple device. Then after that follow the above procedure to reestablish the connection on the new channel. Just a thought. There's no reason for the slow streaming accept the that the OS update does something to screw up the connection between the apple tv and the wireless router. If you can fix this it should go back to normal. Good luck.

    I just got an Apple TV for Christmas and I am extremely disappointed.  It is slow...everything about it is slow.  The connection over the home newtork to share my music and photos, the connections to the internet to YouTube, Netflix.  In the same room I am on my MacBook wirelessly connected to the same network and all is fine.

    I've downloaded the latest software, reset the device, restarted it, moved it away from other components.


    I am not looking for any advice from the community....but am hoping someone at Apple is going to read this and see that I am yet another voice being added to the chorus of disappointment.


    This is the first Apple product that has disappointed me.  Three iPods, two MacBooks, two iPhones and an iPad.....all great.  Apple TV does not live up to the standards I have come to expect.

    Apple TV is such an inferior product. Download times are back in the days of MS-DOS computing. How can they get away with charging premium prices for a service where a film takes an hour or more to download and then sops halfway because the download was incomplete. Is this a case of The Emperor's New Clothes? Apple is all design and really poor at delivery. The share price and company value should slide rapidly down to reflect the. True worth of this business.

    I totally agree with you SAC61. I'm having increasing problems even streaming films from my macbook to the ATV2. Have reset everything. Started from scratch and installed all latest SW today and it's even slower than before. All Apple products are degrading, instead of getting the the pleasure and productivity benefits of technology I'm spending time I will never get back trying to get Apple products to work together and with the rest of the world. By the way I gave up trying to download movies a year ago - now I'm giving up trying to play my imovies and photos in my living room - I'll just take a laptop PC and memory stick when I want to show some.

    I am living in Europe and had the same experience. But I found a very simple solution: I saw that when I placed the atv on top of a digital TV decoder, I suffered these problems. But when I simply placed the ATV aside and a little away from the decoder the problem was solved.

    To the comments about "why would you even use the Google DNS"... I use it for my ATV and have experianced far superior download times..


    Ever since I made sure my internet package was adequate with my ISP, purchased a new router and used the google DNS I have experianced 0 issues.


    By the time a movie is 3-4 mins in it has already buffered 3/4 of the movie. So it might not be the ATV's issue.
