I do not intend to preach, but this is one of the reason it is recommended you have a backup, and TimeMachine, because if backs up in depth, is great for getting an older copy back after you have deleted it by mistake (assuming you do not wait too long and the deleted file drops off the backup as well).

The other reason is because disks break. Your data is generally extremely valuable to you (family pictures cannot be easily replaced if you loose your disk).

Yep, I've looing for the same program for a very long time. Recently I find a useful tool from Google. It is an iPhone deleted or lost file recovery program called Wondershare Data Recovery for iTunes, which could help you recovering yor accidentally deleted files with ease. The recoverable files including contacts, photos, videos, messages, notes and more. I hope this program could help you more or less.

Files deleted from the trash are gone, unless you are lucky and one of the disk recovery services (which are very expensive) can find the file. But you would need to shutdown your Mac almost immediately, to keep that storage from being reused for another file.

For most people, once deleted from the trash, or deleted using a Unix command line utility, the file is gone for good. Backups are the best hope and just one of the reasons everyone should be making backups.
