FCP7: How much faster on new iMac vs. 4 years ago?

My computer (Apple iMac Desktop 24" -- 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive) is coming up on four years old. I use it extensively for video production, including Final Cut Studio.

How much faster will the newest iMac be -- specifically, for Final Cut Pro 7 rendering and processing, and DVD burning?

The age-old question: Buy soon, or wait till even better models come out?

iMac - Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The danger is that new models might not be compatible with fcp7 as it's no longer being supported.

A couple of things that could make a big difference with a new mac;

more cores means faster output in compressor if you enable qmaster. This can make an enormous difference.

and if you use Thunderbolt drives or an Thunderbolt adapter to use esata drives you can work with much higher resolution material with fewer problems.
