MacBook Pro screen randomly turns completely blue and then returns to normal as if I had restarted my computer... any ideas why or what I can do to fix it?

I've had my 15" MacBook Pro for about 2 years now.

Software is OS X, version 10.6.8

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 5 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

This has been happening for a few weeks now and I have no idea why.

Also, my battery life seems to be draining faster lately.

Sounds like a bad piece of software you have installed or requires a update to work with a recent Software Update.

Some people have installed always on anti-virus or Mackeeper, this sounds like your issue. Uninstall it.

Look in your console logs for kernel panics also Activity Monitor for runaway processes that is draining your battery.

Go through the steps here to narrow down your issue, but I suspect it's very highly likely some sort of software, the Blue screen is the clue.

Have you been calibrating your battery per your user manual schedule?

Safe Boot by restarting your computer while holding down the "shift" key. Safe booting disables all nonessential processes, often times allowing you to start up when you would otherwise crash.

As of OS X 10.5.6 Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache location in the /var/db/dyld directory. A corrupt cache here can cause the blue screen crash. Once you restart normally, the cache will be recreated. This should take care of the issue.

If you have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.

i have almost the same exact issue---with a MBP just as old.....

had the reduced charge problem also (only 2-3 hours), but gfxCardStatus fixed that....though I despise workarounds to equipment that Ive paid top dollar for...

now it's this blue screen--in the middle of working it will just blue screen--i get by this by shutting the lid, letting the MBP sleep, then waking it...another lousy workaround

and this is the FIRST time ive had a major issue with a Mac CPU in 20+ years

This also appens to me.But i can recover the screen simply plugging-in a secondary monitor, no matter if in mirror mode or not.

At that point the mac works fine, but if i disconnect the second monitor, the screen turns blue again.

A reboot solves the problem.

In the console log there are not significant messages at the time of the failure.

i have an MBP less than 1 year old running snow leopard. ( i can't stand Lion )
