I just got a MAC OS X 10.7.4 which has Java 32 and 64 bit installed. Am unable to make deposits on line. I get a msg stating it appears I am using 64 bit java and I need 32 bit java for MAC. I have changed order of java in preferences but it does not make a difference. Suggestions?

Hi Terry, check your Browser & see if Java is disabled, the latest Security update disabled it.

Java is enable in both Firefox and Safari. My software is up to date. Is the Security update included in the software update?

Go into Java Preferences and move Java 32 bit to the top of the list.
If that doesn't work, disable the other by unchecking the checkbox.
Have tried this several times and have found you cannot uncheck a single box. It's either both boxes checked or unchecked.

This didn´t work for me. I have Safari 6.0.4, and now Java 7, on Mac OSX 10.8.3. I checked the "Open in 32-bit" box in Safari.app Get Info. Restarted Safari and went to my bank's site and through all the hoops to get to the same error message: "It appears you are using 64-bit Java. This system is designed for 32-bit Java only. Please use 32-bit browser (Windows) or select 32-bit Java (MAC)." This is for an online banking site. I ended up calling the bank and they didn't have the solution either. Their workaround was to do it on a smartphone.Thanks!
The bane of using that crappy Safari version and Mtn Lion. This is something that Apple and Oracle have to work out. Either that, or your bank needs to modernize to allow 64-bit Java operations.
If you still have Java 7, you must get rid of it and re-enable Java 6 as linked by baltwo. Please note that you do not want to follow any of the steps after "Additional Information."
If you still have Java 7, it will use Java 7. Here's oracle's uninstall directions: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml
