i was getting kernel panics, just wanted to check capacitors, also got notice to always

restart computer with the many languages box, folder with finder, flashing question mark

before logic board removal did everything possible to get it up and running. installed new hard drive

that went ok when it was running, did that after kernels appeared.

You can try resetting the SMU (power management). This is the procedure

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767

Be sure to disconnect all cables. When attempting to power it up initially, there should not be anything connected, except the power cord. If the iMac was plugged into an old or overcrowded power strip (surge suppressor) before, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet.

A dead or weak PRAM battery can sometimes cause startup issues, although I don't think it would cause kernel panics. Has it ever been changed? When you unplugged the iMac from power to remove the logic board, any remaining charge in the battery may have completely drained. The part looks like this

replaced battery, when first powered up went to second led light green, looked like it was going to work

did not jump to 4th led light red as it did before, probably shoul have let it run its course but was

so happy i shut it off to replace some screws and put it all together, trid it again before closing

up went to 2nd green then right off and again jumped to 4th light red. red is overheat light

from what i understand, unit not on long enough for that to happen, still frustrated!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I can think of is to put it back into that somewhat disassembled state when it appeared to be working better. If it actually does work better that way, try to figure out why. Were any of the internal cabling disconnect in this state of assembly? Did it actually start up all the way to the Desktop (or just get passed the lights)?

If the "4th light red" is supposed to indicate overheating, perhaps a fan is being affected in some way when it gets more fully assembled.

Oh... I'm not sure if it actually gets to this point in the startup process, but if it does, you should try resetting PRAM, if you have not done so already AFTER replacing the PRAM battery.

done everything possible, cannot reset pram, does not stay on long enough.

sometimes indicator light goes on when i press the power button, sometimes not

its leading me to think its the power supply, but you cannot keep replacing parts

without testing them. would need pinout of the power supply my # 614-0363

if i might add, in the very beginning before kernel panics, it would freeze

its easy once you put your mind to it, they learned by a book anyway. back to my problem, i was able

to get it up and running by pressing the reset button on the logic board. still getting restart your computer

message with all the languages, plus i got a loud beep, now with a flashing power light and this

panic CPU 0 caller

0x0036c4f8 unable to find driver for this platform

this is where i am at present

Jun 8, 2012 2:27 PM in response to Baby-Boomer-USofA

these kernel panics are driving me nuts, i cannot understand why someone cant read a kernel panic

and know what the problem is, all this stuff safe mode, hold this key hold that key and you still have the problem if at apple they know the problem so should the novice a code is a code its meant to be broken

one of those codes says exactly what the problem is. why such a secret???????
