Question: Are you using two-factor Authentication with your apple ID? Was having the same issue on my older MacBook Pro running Yosemite.

Suspect Yosemite doesn't support two-factor auth.

Here's what worked for me:

1. Log in to icloud.com from a browser

2. Disable two-factor authentication

3. Log into the App store from your Mac

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

BK

I have the exact same problem as "Jan Olsen 1"

I sent them feedback:

"I was given a $25 iTunes gift card.

When trying to log on to my account, my password didn't work (though I entered the correct password THREE TIMES).

I requested help changing the password through an e-mail. Went through the process, changed the password.

I successfully logged on to my account and entered the gift card information and was given a $25 credit.

When I tried to buy mp3s, I was asked to enter my password - AGAIN.

I got one of the following messages each time I tried to enter my NEW password:

'We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (5002).

There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.'

or

'Verification is required.

You must enter your AppleID and password, click Billing Info, and verify your payment information in order to make purchases.

The Apple ID you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect. Please try again.'

Don't know where to go from here."

And then, just to log on to this forum, I had to enter my AppleID TWICE! Once, then again to verify my AppleID!

Ridiculous! Frustrating!

Apple is on the verge of repeating history

Too many unnecessary & monopoly restrictions

With its growing tantrums and seeking useless importance, with extreme complicated sync systems

I know thousands of people age 45-50 cancelled iPhone and bought Samsung S3 and Note

These age group are not comp savvy, n they need to catch hold of kids to sync any data/song/app/movie, where as in a Samsung they can get do it themselves. It’s just a USB / SD card

I DON'T KNOW THAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND, IT'S THE CONSUMER WHO IS KING N NOT THE MANUFACTURER

SAMSUNG NOTE/s3 sold 2-3 times more than iPhone 5

It's high time APPLE learns

Frustrated by Apple:

Calm down! There is nothing wrong with Apple. In your eye, Samsung may be better. In my eye, Samsung is HORRIBLE. But you don't have to share your feelings on this forum, and this does not help solve Iama464's question.

Iama464:

Although Apple products are among the most secure, there are still hackers. You may want to trash your old Apple I.D. and get a new one. This is the only solution I have.

Same issue here... I am actually signed in (or so the Store menu item in iTunes says).

Then when I try to redeem a gift card by clicking Redeem in the store... I am asked for my password. But the password no longer works.

So I log out using the Store menu. Log in with same info. Then try to redeem again. Password doesn't work...

Huh............??

I have same problem. On MB Pro and Mac Mini both using OS 10.7.5, I get message "Cannot connect to App Store", and whin I try to sign in, my Apple ID & password are not recognized. Yet they work with iTunes and Apple support forum. On an older MB with OS 10.6.8, no problem.

I have spent about 90 minutes on phone with Apple, first Austin, TX, then Sacramento, CA, explaining, troubleshooting, and being booted up the ranks to the Support Supervisor, who could not help me. Now, I'm going to talk to a local "Genius Bar" employee, and watch as he fails all the same things I've attempted, so they can finally deduce what I think is true: MOTHERBOARD ISSUE! Then, since my AppleCare is good, I'll finally get it fixed.

I hope.
