Preparing a 'list' on 'Notes' in Lion

Hi, I use 'Notes' a lot, and the Cloud link between Mac and iPad is really good. Does anyone know how to develop lists on Notes either as bulleted or numeral lists? The only way I can do this is to first do a list in Word then copy into Notes but I am sure there must be a way of doing this directly on Notes. Grateful for any advice.
