Q: Higher rated RAM modules?

Can I use higher rated RAM modules such as PC3-10600 1333MHz in a Late 2009 iMac?

Your model uses 4 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

I would not use RAM that does not meet the specs. You can find suitable RAM at
OWC or DataMem.

Kappy, thanks for the response. I've noted the specs required but wondered what the problem would be installing the higher rated modules. Will they operate?

There is a chance they will work reliably. Even were they to work they will not run any faster than the lower rated RAM. You would gain no benefit from using them.
