I agree that the paid update is a let down, especially as the only reason I need the update is becasuse Mainstage has been repeatedly letting me down during live performace, either seizing up or quitting completely. Apparently the update/ 'feature release' fixes this? I just think it's a shame that users who bought thier copy of Mainstage from the App store recently should get a free update when others who bought Mainstage with Logic Pro don't. Do I really have any choice but to update and pay?

I also agree that the paid update is a sham to those who bought the full boxed set of Logic. The ONLY reason I bought the boxed version of Logic was to get MainStage....I don't use anything else in that package. So ultimately, I've paid hundreds of dollars for a product that's now selling for $30 and I don't even get a free update.....sheesh!

As far as this logic goes: " MS 2.2 is a feature release" and that I "never bought that version of MainStage with the Logic Studio box": bollocks! Many consider a feature release to be more than a .1 incremental update...OSX versions excluded. With the exception of major OSX updates, I've never experienced being charged money for a .1 incremental update, and the vast majority of software developers have a policy that incremental updates are free until a new version is released i.e. v.2.5.6 to v3.0. I'm sure that's not always the case, but it's definitely the case in an overwhelming majority of cases.

Shame on Apple for this price gouge.

Hi, I just looked at the downloads section of this site and searched for "Logic Pro MainStage 2" and found it as a normal download. I couldn't try it out because I stilll have to move from 10.5 to 10.6, but I am fairly certain I saw it there-check for yourself.

I just looked again and had to remove the Logic pro from"Logic pro MainStage 2" before the Mainstage update appeared, it seems to give slightly different answers each time, don't we all? And it is only 2.1.3 so 2.2.2 will appear here later, I assume.

Sorry all, I just read the full disscusion and I understand now the 2.1.3 could only become 2.2.2 when $30 was paid for it and I suppose only available in the app store. Apple doesn't worry about software anymore, they want you to buy all their hardware and let them follow you around where ever you go, times change, so do companies[corporations are people too,in the USA.]

Mainstage 2.2 is not a feature release, no matter how you try to word it. It has been a series of bug fixes. Look at the release notes and you will see a list of updates starting with "Resolves an issue..." Just because you deprecate the 'Full Screen mode' and provide better compatibility with a specific MIDI keyboard, I don't believe it's honest to say you are adding features.
