It sounds like you have the original iPhone, not an iPhone 3G. You can verify here:
If you have the original iPhone, iOS 3.1.3 is the last version it can run.

Shoot, I think your right. I just asumed it was a 3g, because there were a lot of similar questions on it and I thought my sis said it was a 3g. Well thanks for your help.

Incorrect. The last version for the 3G was iOS 4.2.1. If sheeble is having problems getting to that version, he/she should start a new topic with full details about his/her system and someone can probably help.

I was thinking 4.1 was the last update, because I remembered the 4 and the 1 but I guess I forgot the 2...
