I just got this iphone from my sister after waiting forever. I really want to get some of the newer apps, but a lot of them require iOS 4.0 or 4.1. So does anyone know how to update. It keeps saying that the current version is 3.1.3
Facts:
I just downloaded iTunes yesterday, so it should be up to date.
My iphone is a 3g
My current software version is 3.1.3
I also have no songs, but a few apps

It sounds like you have the original iPhone, not an iPhone 3G. You can verify here:

If you have the original iPhone, iOS 3.1.3 is the last version it can run.

Shoot, I think your right. I just asumed it was a 3g, because there were a lot of similar questions on it and I thought my sis said it was a 3g. Well thanks for your help.

Sorry sheeble, but if you have the 3g, then that was the last update for it, 4.1.
Its really annoying how they just stop making updates for the older generations. 😟
Incorrect. The last version for the 3G was iOS 4.2.1. If sheeble is having problems getting to that version, he/she should start a new topic with full details about his/her system and someone can probably help.
