Q: Recently bought my MacBook, having trouble changing the old user name!

Hey, as the title says this is a persistent problem for me. I've already logged in as the root user, and changed the user folder (previously named 'gazelle') to 'ray'. However, Gazelle still pops up occasionally, such as just now as I was trying to save a text file.

Here's what I'm seeing:

any idea how to wipe Gazelle off of my computer for good?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

With an used Mac I would setup a completely new useraccount for myself than delete the other account(s).
You will be more sure it will work without problems since you will start with "fresh - original" conditions.
Later you can import into your account your Data, Apps and settings.
If you already have a Mac you can use Migration Assistant to do that.

The best thing to do when you buy a computer like that is to start fresh and restore back to stock settings. However, you can login to the root account and change the username of the Mac. This will affect a few settings though. See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428
