suddenly icloud rejected my password. How do I reset my password for email?

Start here, change your country if necessary and go to reset password.
However, you may wish to wait before doing this and try again later, there have been a number of recent report about email not working properly, it may well be that there is currently a server problem.

Your email password and your iCloud account password are one and the same thing.
Are these the same as my Apple ID? I reset the password on my apple ID and the apple ID password did not work for my @me email
I think it is now working. I think it just took some time gor it to "Take hold". You definitely helped my stress even though the passing of time cured my problem. Thank you!!!
The problem that users are encountering with email currently seems to be intermittent for some users but not for others. Let's hope your email continues to work for you.
Had the same issue a number of months ago, in the end after a number of telephone conversations with Apple support they had to reset my password for me.
I couldn't reset it as it had changed my birthday which was part of the security question.
I'm now waiting for them to ring me again as it had changed my first name to just an initial, which is not mine. I have now reset this but am concerned as to why it is doing this.
It has also now done the same to a friend, locked her out of her emails, she can't reset the password as it no longer recognises her security question ( mothers name ).
