OS X keeps autocorrecting 'servient' to 'servent'. If I highlight, right click and select 'Look Up...' it can't find the word. Is there a way to add it to Lion's dictionary?

Open Users/yourname/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary with a text editor such as Barebones Textwrangler and add it in there.

Likely because it is obsolete except in Law. You should just be able to right-click on it and choose "Learn Spelling" to add it to the spell check dictionary.

If you want it to actually look up the definition, I don't know how to fix that.

Thanks Barney. Yes, it was a legal document that I was perparing. What, lawyers don't use Macs? ;-)

I'm not sure that was my point. It was actually that lawyers use words nobody else uses, so I wouldn't expect to find it in a standard dictionary.
