Where can I find the charger for my iPod 3G (A1040)?
Hi! I recently purchased an iPod 3G and need a connector that works with it, since the USB connectors won't. Is there anywhere I can find one?

in an apple store
The "A1040" iPod is one that has a touch (not click) wheel, with four round touch buttons (that glow orange) in a row between the wheel and screen, is that correct?
That iPod requires FireWire to charge, and a docking cable with a FireWire connector. They won't be at the Apple Store anymore, but I see used (or maybe "new but old") ones on eBay. Just search on "ipod firewire charger" and "firewire docking cable"
If you have a Mac with a FireWire port (or a PC with one), you can use the FireWire docking cable connected to that port to sync and charge the iPod. If the Mac is recent, it may have a FireWire 800 port instead of the older FireWire 400 port. You can still connect it using a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter, which then connects to the FireWire docking cable.
There is actually a way to connect it to USB for syncing. You need a special docking cable that has a dock connector on one end, which splits off to both a USB connector and FireWire connector at the other end. I found an item on eBay which appears to be a third-party version of this cable that Apple used to sell
You connect the dock connector to the iPod, the USB connector to your computer, and the FireWire connector to the FireWire charger (the square white power adapter that came with these iPods). This setup allowed that iPod to sync and charge at the same time.
Starting with the next iPod model (4th gen), iPods could use USB (or FireWire) for both charging and syncing.
Thanks, I just ordered one off of eBay. I can sync it with both a Clamshell and a Mac Mini with FireWire.
That's good... You've got a collector's item. Hopefully, the battery is in decent shape.
