letter e with two dots above it

I am trying to write the correct spelling of Citroen, how do I get the letter e with the 2 dots above it.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

type "alt+u", then "e".... gives ë ! or... Citroën even!

(BTW: "two dots" are called an "umlaut".)
