VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is basically a connection to a secured network from outside of the network. It generally allows the user to operate via theninternet as though they are actually on the network.
It is set on the iPad in the Settings app under General > Network > VPN.
Honestly, if you don't know what it is, you likely don't need it. If you do need it, you will need the get the appropriate settings from your network admin.
Do you think it's directly linked to Wi-fi security in any way ?
This video gave me this impression :

Sorry, but your link doesn't seem to work. As for your question, what exactly is it you want to know? Yes, it is related to security, but again, if you do not have access to a VPN, it means nothing to you.
Hi, thanks for your reply, I wanted to know if having a VPN - could help keep wifi safe :
The link i posted earlier is supposed to open the video on youtube app, here is the link to open this same video through mobile browser :

Thanks again for your reply.
Yes, connecting to a VPN improves security, assuming the network you connect to is properly secured.
Hi Ranns,
have you managed to get a clear understanding yet about VPN : I haven't - but here is what I have managed to gather so far : hope it helps out , Thanks.
i.) How to set up VPN ( links from Apple's Site )
• http://help.apple.com/iosdeployment-vpn/#app36c9653d
• http://help.apple.com/iosdeployment-ipcu/
The above steps are very confusing for users like myself so an alternative i found is -
• Go to the appstore and type VPN - a few apps are returned in the resultthat provide VPN as a paid service.
ii.) What does VPN do ? I myself am still confused about this : but here goes
• It changes your real IP Address - from what I have read ( This protects you as a user )
a potential debate to this, If i protects the user ? wouldn't it alsi help protect an intruder who uses it ?
a home network can share files and printers and a internet connection between the devices connected to the home network
a device such as your ipad that you bring with you can get an Internet connection from an open wifi or 3g
when it's connected to the Internet
it can use VPN
which makes a tunnel into the Internet to your home network and make it appear to the Ipad as it was connected to your home network you can share files and print and the likes just as if you were at home with your ipad
even if you are in an airport in finland
Thanks for response rudegar :
Your'e right, it does create a tunnel even though youre away from home to enable sharing between our network.
Though the home IP address is displays the servers ( VPN Service Providers IP address ) and not our own IP Address correct ?
I've put up an article on this topic that I hope will help others:
Think he waited around almost 2 years for this?
