MMS messaging requires your phone number

A few weeks ago I got this message on my phone when I went into the Messaging App. Which seems strange to me that my phone doesn't know my number.

In any event I put in my number.

Well today it started doing it again.

Anybody else have this going on? Know what it is about?

This happened to me today. This must be a bug that Apple has to fix. I had been texting and iMessaging fine all day. At home, phone automatically logins to my WIFI and I got a text, when I unlocked the phone (no pw) The pop up message showed up.

Press Settings to go to Phone Settings and enter your phone number.

Clicked on settings and y phone number was set as "unkown" I retyped it and seems okay. I just don't see a reason to do this out of the blue. BUG!

How do we report bugs?

LOL Well I understand this is for sharing info and getting issues fixed, but I think if it happens to more than 1 person Apple should have a place to report. I don't have my diagnostics send automatically to them :/ .. oh well. 🙂 if you find out, post it 😀

(sorry I'm on the QC/QA side of bz) 😀

Apple provides service: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne - click "How do I get my iPhone serviced?" for options. If mine does it again I will contact them before I add my number.

From Ucello's screenshot and the other reports it appears all of these are on AT&T.

Mine: 5.1.1, purchased from AT&T 2/2012 on contract, locked (not jailbroken in case this is confused with password-protected).
